Telepathy is a subject of much debate, with many people convinced that this is something which exists only in the realms of fantasy and science fiction. However, just think of this: in our world, we fly all over the globe regularly, information comes to us in invisible waves to our computers and phones. There are a lot of things in our daily life which would seem entirely too fantastic to be believed, even a few decades ago.

The late, great Arthur C. Clark said that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. So, in a sense, science and technology ARE magic; they allow us to conjure up things that were 'impossible' just a century ago. We draw electrical power directly from the sun. We carry around a small device that can allow us to communicate with anyone else who has a similar device anywhere on the planet instantly; and some people's small devices allow them to visit entire libraries while they sit on a park bench. But, of course, in a literal sense, this is all just science-not 'magic'. Right?

Telepathy is thought of today, at least by most people, as some kind of 'magic'-and so, something mystical. Yet, history proves that all kinds of things that are science today were 'magic' back when few people understood them or they were believed to be impossible. So…why can't telepathy be another one of these natural phenomena that is simply written off by many as superstitious magic today because, as of yet, it hasn't been fully comprehended by science?

Para physics or parapsychology is an area of science tasked with the study of telepathic people. Although scientific tests and studies are always the preferred methods used, those conducting these experiments do not always appreciate the results of them.

There have been experiments conducted into telepathic abilities which have yielded some promising data. These experiments need to be conducted using the scientific method ? that is to say that the results must be measurable, consistent and reproducible. Unfortunately, the experiments and studies done on the subject of telepathy have largely failed to live up to this standard in that the results are inconsistent and are not necessarily reproducible. Skeptics look at this as proof positive that there is no such thing as telepathy. However, it can also be taken as an indication that there is work to be done in measuring telepathic abilities and that we do not yet fully understand how telepathy works; something which is certainly the case.

Yet, questions about telepathy remain. How can people communicate, at least to a significant degree, without making use of any of the five physical senses-communicate with pure thought? Well, human beings do this now with the use of artificial communication technology. For instance, probably every home in the civilized world has a radio in it-but radio waves, which surely do exist, can't be observed intuitively or felt with our five physical senses. So, it would seem that telepathy is made possible by some force or energy that is there but, like the radio wave, cannot be intuitively or tactiley observed. Yet, the problem here is that the human brain isn't a radio receiver…

The cornerstone for continued scientific study into the existence of telepathy is that our thought waves actually produce electrical and magnetic fields caused by our brains. Let us now attempt to put this into simpler terms, although it can be a bit complicated.

The conventional wisdom in science is that human thought is 'merely' the result of a mass of biochemical neurons transferring electro-chemical impulses between different synapses-indeed; this has led some to conclude that consciousness is merely an 'illusion'. But, there is that electrical current that gets generated?and as small as it is, it's consistently and repeatedly measurable. Like all electrical currents, there is a proportional magnetic field that goes along with it. And the brain has tens of thousands of synapses activated at any given second.

When you have electromagnetic fields, you have the possibility of communications-as our modern technology clearly proves. But, this brings us to another question: in these 'thought waves', is there truly content being carried, or is it all just 'white noise'? If there is content, can we be trained to control sending and receiving it? Is meditation so effective for so many because it's a method of tuning in the thought waves better, cutting out the noise and static, just as we do when we tune in a radio station and/or move the radio antenna around?

One obstacle to using telepathic communication is that these bio-energy fields are very weak. They can easily be lost in the other electromagnetic fields which are part and parcel of modern technology.

But it is possible to boost the human brain to produce a spike in bio-electrical and bio-magnetic brain waves. This occurs when a person is in a heightened emotional state and experiencing pain, shock, fear or the feeling of being threatened. It happens because our synapses are firing more neurons at the same time.

Brief occurrences of telepathy have been documented in cases where a mother knows that her child is in distress even though they are apart from each other. During the heightened emotional state of the mother her synapses are firing more neurons simultaneously. It would certainly seem that a link exists between the spike in the bio-electrical and bio-magnetic waves and the occurrences of telepathy.

As you have no doubt become aware as you have read this, no scientific research has provided evidence that telepathy is an absolute fact. But that is the science of today and it is beginning to change. With an increase in studies we are seeing that telepathy does actually exist. And anyone can learn how to be telepathic if they receive the proper training.
