Most people will dismiss the idea that telepathy actually does exist, because to them it seems impossible and the stuff of movies. And yet, if we stop to take a look around ourselves, at the world in which we live, we will see that people fly every day. Information flows around us linking computers and other high tech devices. We live in a world where we can seemingly make a flame appear in our hands all for the price of a simple lighter.

A modern piece of proverbial wisdom is that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Science and technology is the domain of human beings, and we use these unique powers to discover hidden things about the natural world, hidden principles that we can then use. What was 'impossible' 100 years ago is today routine. We have gone to the depths of the ocean and left this planet entirely…and come back (well, some of us have, but that proves that most or all of us could). We can convert sunlight into power and energy. We can write a message and have it instantaneously delivered, all in tact, to someone even if they are on another continent from us. And it's all thanks to science, not 'magic', isn't it?

Nearly all of the things that science knows and can understand today were once 'mystical'-that is, they were mysteries. And some people who were able to figure out a few of these mysteries back in a world when the concept of science as we know it today did not exist was said by others do to 'magic'. So-why can't telepathy be yet another mystery-a true natural phenomenon, one that science has yet to fully flesh out for itself, one which can be made into a 'technology' by those who do comprehend it.

Para physics or parapsychology is an area of science tasked with the study of telepathic people. Although scientific tests and studies are always the preferred methods used, those conducting these experiments do not always appreciate the results of them.

Oftentimes the results of the experiments are very intriguing. For something like telepathy to be considered by the science world to be a scientific fact it has to be possible to measure it, the results must be consistent, and the results must be repeatable. However, when it comes to telepathy the results are not always repeatable or consistent. While science then declares telepathy as improvable of unsubstantiated, others point out that perhaps they just haven?t invented the proper tests yet, since we still do not know or understand why some people are telepathic.

Is it possible for humans to use telepathic abilities, communicating with each other using only thought? After all, there are communications technologies which we can't see, hear, smell, touch or taste but are very real ? ever seen a radio wave? Of course not, but you know that they are real. Our minds are not radio transmitters, however.

..Or, is it? One thing that science does know and acknowledge is that there are electromagnetic waves generated by the brain called 'thought waves'. And researchers who have not dismissed telepathy say that this is the key insight that is needed to understand it.

Scientifically speaking, our thoughts occur as the result of biochemical processes which involve electrical impulses being transferred from neuron to neuron in the brain. These electrical impulses are very small, but they are measureable ? and of course, any electrical current will generate a magnetic field. In the human brain, there are thousands of these electrical impulses happening at any given time.

Telepathy researchers are trying to find if the bio-electric and bio-magnetic fields created in our brains could be a means of communicating with others. Can a message be carried on these signals, or is it just so much static? If thoughts can carry information to others, is it possible to learn telepathy through mental training? Are meditation and controlled thought a viable way of training one's mind to use its inherent telepathic abilities?

One obstacle to using telepathic communication is that these bio-energy fields are very weak. They can easily be lost in the other electromagnetic fields which are part and parcel of modern technology.

One question is whether it is possible to amplify these signals from our minds. It is already known that a spike in brainwave strength occurs when people are experiencing a state of heightened emotion; most commonly fear or pain.

When a mother who is far away from her child suddenly knows that her child is in danger, her synapses are firing more neurons simultaneously and parapsychologists have been able to document these brief instances of telepathy. This raises the question then that if we detect a spike in bio-electrical and bio-magnetic brainwaves, does that mean that there is a link between that and telepathic communication?

As you have no doubt become aware as you have read this, no scientific research has provided evidence that telepathy is an absolute fact. But that is the science of today and it is beginning to change. With an increase in studies we are seeing that telepathy does actually exist. And anyone can learn how to be telepathic if they receive the proper training.
